Introduction in Interior Design

Currently, people are spending a large amount of time at their homes which is directly affecting their wellbeing and mental health. In such unfortunate circumstances and uncertain periods, provoked in this case by the COVID-19 pandemic, people gain a sense of understanding and appreciation of how important their interior space is for inner peace. The important factors are whether the space is designed correctly and whether their indoor furniture fits with the overall décor.  Designing the space is a great responsibility. Any professional interior designer has to research, plan ahead and coordinate many processes in order to guarantee a beautiful and aesthetically satisfying space. However, what exactly constitutes interior design. Today we will explore the various aspects of designing a restaurant.

Often, interior design is believed to be synonymous with decorating. While selecting the upholstery, the colors and finishes is an important part of interior design it is but a mere aspect of the whole process. It is important to understand consumer behavior and attitude in order to create a functional and stylish space.  A good starting point is to begin organizing the restaurant tables and restaurant chairs, moving them around to find the perfect layout is the first step to creating a great space. Arranging the restaurant furniture can sometimes help in dividing the space. Other talking points include ergonomics and comfort.

Layout

The layout of a restaurant is the arrangement of the indoor furniture which includes restaurant chairs, bar stools and restaurant tables. Our outstanding selection of commercial restaurant furniture includes many new traditional and modern options like Fully Upholstered Black steel curved back chair, Curved back wood restaurant chair with solid seat, Fully upholstered restaurant chair Debra US, Stackable resin side chair Varia-s, Bernie BPS Cane Restaurant Bar Stool, and Single Restaurant Booth With Buttoned Back And Wood Legs, Adequate positioning of the restaurant furniture can create a great flow which is important to any dining place. Organizing the interior layout is essential in order to design a functional space. Designing a good layout is a difficult task. It arrives with many complications and considerations – accessibility, fire escapes, room capacity and etc. The most important thing to remember is that it is fundamental to address the consumer’s specific needs for space, whether they prefer a restaurant which offers a secluded ambience or one with a more public atmosphere. Considering the consumer’s desires will be beneficial to proposing an adequate and functional space for the restaurant.

Furniture

Restaurant furniture directly impacts the quality of any interior design project. The designer has to assure the choices of the client i.e. wood chairs, metal chairs, and upholstered chairs, do not contradict the theme of the restaurant and fit In with the décor.  Choosing suitable indoor furniture for your restaurant will ensure its functionality.  Small spaces are more difficult to decorate and incorporate restaurant furniture into them. Therefore, often it is more efficient to use unique restaurant chairs which will make use of every inch of space.  Using indoor furniture such as stackable chairs is great way to maximize your space.  Comfort is another crucial factor in interior design. High-quality indoor furniture is essential in the design industry and any uncomfortable and unsafe chairs and tables are unacceptable.
Comfort can be created from the aesthetics of the space, the aroma of the atmosphere, the breeze slowly entering through the window. How will the restaurant be visually perceived when entering it? The color, the brightness, the lighting will determine the ambience as cozy, relaxing and peaceful. Sound also plays an important role in creating a comforting environment. While dining with your significant other or your family, relaxing on a great restaurant dining chair, ideally the acoustics of the space will allow being able to talk without raising your voice. The temperature is also quite important for any restaurant. The ideal temperature is believed to be between 20 and 25 degrees.
Although it may seem far away from architecture, ergonomics is the discipline that helps interior designers decorate spaces and truly adapted to the physiological and psychological characteristics of the consumers and users of each room. It is defined as the process of designing or arranging workplaces, products and systems so that they fit the people who use them. Therefore, the success of a great interior design is related to thorough ergonomic analysis and research.

Finish

Finishing materials are all different. The selection normally comes down to factors such as function, cost and most importantly aesthetics.  However, designers must also account for the composition of each material and its effect on the environment.  Choosing a great and comfortable restaurant chair with an upholstered seat which is eco-friendly is very difficult. Nowadays, the market is full of finishing materials, manufactured throughout the entire world allowing the designer to research the origin, longevity and recyclability of the product. The choice of coating or finish is therefore complicated and the following factors must be considered:
  • Purpose – the materials must be suitable for the desired space and its function. When selecting finishing materials it must be considered the conditions in which they will be used. Whether they’ll be cleaned often, whether there will be heavy traffic and etc.
  • Substance - The composition of the materials will determine its durability and resistance to different weather conditions.  It will also show whether toxic chemicals have been used in production as they may have long-lasting effects on the quality of the indoor air.
  • Surface- The last layer of the finishing material has a great effect on the comfort of the space. Surfaces on restaurant tables and restaurant chairs for example can be treated to be waterproof and not sticky. Elements such as edges and handles are used to make cleaning easier.
Understanding consumer behavior from physiological and psychological perspective helps interior designers achieve success and create a great comfortable and stylish space. At the end of the day, everyone has different requirements, desires and feels comfortable in different amounts of light, in different acoustics and in different temperature. It is fundamental to consider all these factors when designing a restaurant.
